Is it permissible to use pirated software?
Question
my brother send me a laptop with windows installed ,ms office etc.
I dont know wether that is pirated or not.
.can i use that laptop or shall i purchase a knew windows cd for reinstallation
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
You may use the laptop with the windows program sent by your brother.[1]
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

أما الذي اشتراه بالثمن إذا لم يكن الشراء مضافا إلى الغصب فظاهر وأما الذي اشتراه بالثمن و أضاف العقد إليه فالعقد لم يقع على الثمن المشار إليه فلا يتمكن الخبث في المبيع و أما غذا أضاف الشراء إلى الغصب إلا أن الرجل إذا لم يعلم أن الذي قدم إليه من الغصب بعينه فلأنه لم يعلم بالحرمة * والأصل في الأشياء الإباحة * و إن علم أنه مغصوب بعينه لا يحل أن يأكل لأنه علم بالحرمة *
