Is Arish an Islamic name?
Question
My elder son name is Arish Raheel
There are different meaning of Arish on different Islamic sites. I need to know if this is a proper Islamic name with a meaning or not.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The name Arīsh (عريش) has different meanings which include:
- a hut/shelter made of twigs
- a sedan chair
- a roof made up of grape twigs[1]
The name Ārish (عارش) is not found in the Arabic language. However, some websites say that Ārish is a Farsi (Persian) name meaning “wise” and “intelligent”.
Hence, the name Arish is suitable.[2]
