Is there any mention of "sayyed" (Aal-i-Muhammad SAW) in hadeeth? Can't we give zakaah to them?
Answer
Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) mentioned, 'O Children of Hashim! Verily%0D%0AAllah Ta'ala has prohibited for you the dirty water and filth of the people%0D%0Aand given to you in exchange a 5th of the one fifth (of booty received in%0D%0Awar.' (Hidaaya vol.1 pg.206; Maktaba Ilmiyyah)%0D%0A%0D%0AIn this Hadith, Zakaat funds have been referred to us dirty water and filth%0D%0Adue to the fact that Zakaat is a purification of the wealth, removing from%0D%0Ait the dirt of any sin accruing over the year. Hashim was the great%0D%0Agrandfather of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). The Banu Hashim include%0D%0Anot only the descendants of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) but the%0D%0Adescendants of Abbaas, Ali, Ja'far, Aqeel, Uthmaan, the brothers of Ali and%0D%0Athe descendants of Harith ibn Abdul Muttalib (Radhiallaahu Anhum). The Uncle%0D%0Aof Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) as well.
