Fatwa #274142 November 2013Botswana

How much profit is permissible in Islam?

Question

What is permissible profit in Islam?

In other words what is % of profit (gross + net)?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There are no restrictions in Shari’ah on the amount of profit one may make in a business. The seller may make any amount of profits he wishes to as long as the buyer agrees to the price.

However, in determining a markup, one should consider the wellbeing of the customers as well and not be driven by greed only.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
