Does divorce take place if a person commits adultery with his wife’s sister who is also married?

Question

If some sleeps with his wife's sister & that sister is also married with her husband .Are both husband & wife both side get divorce automatically by Islamic law . Because both have done adultery while they are married . Please let me know if possible.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If a married person commits adultery with his married sister in law (wife’s sister), then in an Islamic state the Qadhi (judge) will decree to stone them to death. [1] As such there is no question of divorce. [2]

Stoning to death cannot take place in a non-Muslim country, therefore by default the marriage will not be affected.

If one is guilty of such heinous crimes, he/she should make tawba (repent) and reform himself. [3]
