Fatwa #270414 April 2001South Africa

What is the correct method of sitting while in salaat?

Question

If a person has a problem bending their knees, can the person start their namaaz standing, perform rukr normally, and then sit on a chair for the sajda and jalsa. After the sajda, the person will stand up again and continue the namaaz in this way. Is this method correct? If not, please suggest the best method.

Answer

Respected Brother-in-Islam

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu

It is permissible for the person experiencing difficulties with his knees to
commence his Salaat in a standing posture and perform Ruku and Sajdah whilst
sitting on the chair.
