My sister’s husband left her soon after marriage without giving her divorce

Question

Assalamu Alikum. My sister?s husband left her soon after marriage without giving her divorce. We have put best of our efforts to locate him but his address is not known. His father also expressed his helplessness in locating him. But at times he is speaking to his brother over phone without giving his whereabouts. How long my sister wait for getting a valid divorce? What is the sharia says about such situation?.

Your sister should contact the local Ulama and request them to annul the marriage.
