Travelling in the month of Ramadhan

Question

During Ramadan, a person travels for more than 48 miles away from home. However, his travel is only for leisure/sightseeing purposes and the trip is quite comfortable.

1. is he required to say qasr prayer?
2. if he does not fast (during the leisurely trip), will he be sinful? Please answer this question in detail.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If a person undertakes a journey of 48 miles, he beomes a Musafir. He will have to make Qasr even though he travels for leisure and he is not uncomfortable. Such a person is exempt from fasting and he will not be sinful if he has commenced his journey before Subh Sadiq (dawn).

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
