Rules regarding if someone broke a promise. Also rules one if someone cannot remember a verbal promise

Answer

There are different types of promises in Shari'ah. They can be categorized
as follows:
Yameen - to take an oath to prohibit a permissible thing or act by taking
the name of Allah.
Nazr - to make compulsory upon oneself a permissible act.
Wa'dah - general promise

Kindly specify the type of promise referred to in the question so that a
clear ruling could be given.
