Is it permissible to bend before one's parents and touch their feet?

Question

I am a Bengali and it is in our tradition to salaam our parents by bending down and touching their feet. Is this permissible?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible to follow this tradition. [i]

الانحناء للسلطان أو لغيره مكروه لأنه يشبه فعل المجوس كذا في جواهر الأخلاطي [i]
