My sister, has recently moved from Bangladesh to USA with an immigrant visa. She is a widow, having three children. she has a question regarding Zakat. She has no job and dependent on her older son's income.she has some gold ornament worth $ 5775. how much money she needs to pay Zakat? Is it compulsory for her to pay zakat?

Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh

If $5775 is equal to or more than the amount of nisāb (which is 612.35 grams if silver or it’s amount) and she had the ornaments in her possession for the duration of one Islamic year or more, then she will have to pay 2.5 per cent of $5775 plus any other belonging which is above and more than basic necessities of life.
