Question

1) Can you please tell me if a Muslim can use the slimming aid pill Alli (Orlistat)?  I understand the capsules contain gelatine, but would I be able to discard the capsule and just consume the contents?

2) Can you please reccommend me a book (in English) that I can use to learn Namaz and Dua's so that I can go back into Allah's grace?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

The inactive ingredients [if this refers to the actual pill] contain gelatin therefore making it impermissible, however it will be permissible to discard the pill and consume the contents if the other ingredients are halaal.

We recommend the following book which is very practical and user friendly i.e:

Ta’leemul Haq by Hajee Shabbir Ahmed E.Desai.This kitaab is available directly from the publishers:

Da’watul Haq, Box 158, Umzinto 4200, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa.

Furthermore you could contact your local Aalim, Darul Uloom or browse our website and study the massail on salaah.www.askimam.org.

And Allah knows best
