What happens to a person who spreads negative rumors about someone's character?

Question

A man was a prospective marriage partner for a lady. His relative contacted the woman's family & passed negative comments about this man thus, ruining this potential marriage. This man is mashallah happily married to someone else however, this traumatic experience has left him very hurt and upset as he is a very decent, religious man. This was done out of jealousy. The relative causing this problem was his own brother-in-law.

Answer

The person alledged to be responsible for the negative consequences of the
prospective marriage will be judged by Allah Ta'ala according to his
intentions in the involvement of the matter.
