The value of such articles we will ascertain as the market value and count as part of our zakah payable

Question

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

We have some household items, in good condition, which we would like to give to some needy people by way of Zakah.  The value of such articles we will ascertain as the market value and count as part of our zakah payable.  Is this permissible? Please advise.  Jazakumullah.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

It is permissible to discharge zakat in cash and/or in kind. The household items would be valued at market value and discharged as zakat.

And Allah knows best
