When do we have to wipe the neck in wudu, after we have wiped the head , or after the ears are washed?

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

The words Qafa means the back portion of the head which is done while making masah of the head. Masah of the nape is a different action all together.  The word in Arabic for nape is Raqabah.  The correct manner to do masah of the nape is that is should be done after the masah of the ears.

حدثنا بشر بن موسى، ثنا محمد بن حجر بن عبد الجبار بن وائل الحضرمي، حدثني عمي سعيد بن عبد الجبار، عن أبيه، عن أمه أم يحيى، عن وائل بن حجر، قال:حضرت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وقد أتي بإناء فيه ماء، فأكفأ على يمينه ثلاثا، ثم غمس يمينه في الإناء فأفاض بها على اليسرى ثلاثا، ثم غمس اليمنى في الماء فحفن حفنة من ماء فتمضمض بها واستنشق، واستنثر ثلاثا، ثم أدخل كفيه في الإناء فحمل بهما ماء فغسل، وجهه ثلاثا، وخلل لحيته، ومسح باطن أذنيه، ثم أدخل خنصره في داخل أذنه، ليبلغ الماء، ثم مسح رقبته، وباطن لحيته من فضل ماء الوجه، وغسل ذراعه اليمنى ثلاثا حتى ما وراء المرفق، وغسل اليسرى مثل ذلك باليمنى حتى جاوز المرفق، ثم مسح على رأسه ثلاثا، ومسح ظاهر أذنيه، ومسح رقبته

The above mentioned Hadith is in Tabrani’s Mu’jam Al-Kabir.  The masah of the nape is mentioned after the Masah of the ears.
