I would just like to know if donating money in the cause of building the mosque can be recoginsed as Zakaah?

Zakat must be given to a poor and needy Muslim individual. Zakat cannot be given for a Masjid. Only lillah funds may be used for the building of a Masjid.

If Zakat was given to build a Masjid, it will not be discharged.
