Fatwa #137824 October 2000Pakistan

Can I marry a man who want to convert to Islam because he just want to follow me?

Question

I am a muslim woman who has relationship with Christian. He has learned Islam for more than 1 year, but he still not sure about Islam yet. He want to convert to Islam because I do not want to marry a man if he is not muslim. Can I marry him? Will my mariage valid according to Islam?

Answer

It is not permissible for a Muslim female to marry a non-Muslim male. The
marriage will be null and void.

It is also incorrect for the person to revert to Islam for the inconvenience
of marriage. We advise you exercise extreme precaution and wait until he
accept Islam and satisfactorily practices on Islam for a considerable period
of time. He may then propose to you and you may make Istikhaara (seek divine
guidance) and decide thereafter. Istikhaara at
www.jamiat.org.za/isinfo/istikhaara.html

It is often noticed that innocent Muslim women are duped and deceived
thereby left to suffer the negative consequences of men abusers.
