Can my wife fast during ramadan if she is feeding 1-1/2 baby?
Question
?Alhamdulillah? my wife has delivered a baby boy one and a half month ago. I had read somewhere that baby feeding mother is exempted from fasting. Kindly confirm this in view of the forthcoming Ramadan as my wife would like to fast. She insist on fasting but I fear that it may affect our son health including hers. Your guidance in this matter will be highly appreciated. What does the Hadith say on this subject?
Answer
If a breastfeeding women has been advised by a physician that fasting during Ramadhaan will affect the child, the Shari?ah has offered her the laxity not to fast.
However, if there is no fear of harm to the child, she should fast. (Noorul iedhaah pg.148; Karachi)
