Clarification of Hadith Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 72, Number 777 - It says FIVE practices but only name FOUR. Your comments?
Question
The above hadith reads as follows: Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaho unho): Allah's Apostle (salallaho alaihi wasallam) said, "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails and cutting the moustaches short." It says FIVE practices but only name FOUR. Your comments?
Answer
This Hadith is recorded in Sahih Bukhari several times. According to the Arabic version of Sahih Bukhari, all 5 characteristics are mentioned (see Hadith5889; 5891; 6297)
It is the English version that has a mistake in the translation, though the Arabic text there too has mentioned all 5 (see vol.7 pg.515 Translated by Dr Muhammad Muhsin Khan)
