Fatwa #1122222 April 2004United States of America

I believe there’s a Hadith that one should not go overboard (cross certain boundaries) when making Du’aa, if so, can you please provide it along with the source?

Answer

1. Ibn Abbaas [Radhiallaahu anhu] explains the verse, ?He (Allah) does not like those who exceed the boundaries?. That, ?This concerns Du?aa and other matters also. (Abu Dawud vol.1 pg.193)

2. Abdullah ibn Mughaffal [Radhiallaahu anhu] narrates, I heard Rasulullah [Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam] saying, ?There will soon be in this Ummah such a nation who will exceed the limits in cleanliness and supplication.
