Fatwa #1062611 January 2004United States of America

How does one know before Hajj who he has sinned against so that they may apologize and make right in a contrite manner?

Question

This is in reference to the fatwa for the brother's question #10425, Allahu akbar.

Answer

If one is aware of unjustly hurting a person?s feelings, he should seek the forgiveness of the person ? in any way ? whether he is going for Hajj or not.

Death is imminent. A believer should try to live his everyday life without knowingly and unjustly hurting another person. It is also possible that we may unknowingly hurt other people. Before proceeding for Hajj, it is advisable to meet the people one associate with and seek their forgiveness for any wrong and harm caused to them ? knowingly and unknowingly.
