100% proof ties are cross symbols?Internet searches reveal it stems from ancient armies.Priests don't wear ties.

Answer

We do not have any concrete proof to substantiate the tie being a symbol of the cross. It is, however, Makrooh (reprehensible) to wear a tie or any attire that is commonly adopted by non-Muslims.

A Muslim should don that attire which is Sunnah or closest to the Sunnah.
