My friend has just married a man who does not believe in any kind of God.

Question

Her husband agreed to pretend that he was a muslim so that they could have the nikkah, to keep her family happy. Is the nikkah valid? Is my friend still a muslim? What about her kids - what religion will they be?

Answer

It is not permissable for a muslim female to marry a non-muslim. If your friend discovered that her husband is not a muslim, her marriage is NULL and void. She cannot live with him.
