1. When offering tharaviw do we have to read 8 or 20 rakath? 2. When reading 20, do we have to do 2x10 or may we do 5x4?

Answer

According to all 4 mathaahib, it is Sunnah Mu'akkadah to read 20 Rakaats of Taraaweeh. These should be offered in instalments of two. It is Makrooh to offer them in instalments of more than two. (Tahtaawi Pg 410 Qadeemi).
